We’ll read a book, eat a snack, and make a craft!
Mark your calendar to visit us August 17th from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM!
This year’s Summer Reading program was hosted, organized, and staged by our new children’s librarian, Beth Sisler, who did a marvelous job at it! She was able to gather almost 200 young readers to the library who checked the majority of the almost 7,788 items circulated during the six week period. This wouldn’t have been possible without the generous donations we received from our wonderful community!
In the past, the Summer Reading program has been the only large program that we hosted regularly. That’s changing this year! Tech Workshops, Story Time, Book Clubs (for both kids and adults!), and other interest groups are going to start blooming at the library!
In the past, Tech Classes have been somewhat formal with focused agendas each week but people seemed to find the open questioning / troubleshooting more helpful than other sessions. I’m glad to work one-on-one with folks who have tech questions, too! Future Tech Workshops will all be exclusively focused on the individual needs of patrons. We had previously been meeting from 6PM to 8PM but we will be meeting earlier from this point on.
Open questioning, troubleshooting, conceptual explanations, and more will be available Tuesday evening from
5:00 PM 10:00 AM till 7:00 PM, free to anyone who wants to join! Bring your own device or work on one of ours!
This program will be designed for kids ages 2-6 years and their families, but everyone is welcome! Starting September 9th at 3:30 we will meet every week for a story, craft, and snack.
Book Clubs and other special interest groups
The staff at Stinson have been discussing all kinds of clubs as of late. Books, movies, board games, Lego, Robotics, and other clubs are hot on our minds. If you can think of any kind of group you’d be interested in leave us a comment here or in the Suggestions Box in the adult fiction room! We’ll keep the site posted once plans become more concrete.
Is 21 days not long enough for you? Would you like to keep the book forever? No problem! In addition to the three annual book sales hosted by the Friends Of Stinson, there are like-new books for sale year-round. The hardbacks sell for $3 each and the paperbacks are only $1 or buy 5 get 1 free!
Our Level readers (easy readers) have been re-cataloged and re-organized into 8 distinct groups base on how difficult they are to read. Level 0 for the easiest books all the way up to level 5+, some of which are almost like chapter books! Let us know if this is beneficial to your browsing experience. We’ve already gotten some positive feedback about it 🙂
Come into the library and fill out a registration form, or print one out and bring it in. Children who will be going into Pre-K through 8th grade next school year are all welcome to join in the fun! Registration ends June 19th so hurry in and claim your place. Programs begin on June 24th (for Pre-K through 4th grade) and June 25th (for 5th through 8th grade).
If there are any questions at all don’t hesitate to call or stop by and ask Beth Sisler, our children’s librarian.
Oh boy oh boy oh boy!
It’s almost time for the Summer Reading Program and our new Children’s Librarian’s first crack at the whole shebang! On June 1st sign ups begin so come early to assure your place in the fun!
Not sure what’s happening at the library? Check out the newly added “Events” page!
This page will list events hosted by the Library and the Friends of the Library. Tech classes, story hour, book sales and the Summer Reading program, and more.
I have just yesterday been granted editorial privileges for our website and I hope to start adding cool and interesting things to our site, in addition to responding to comments that people make on here.
Here is a list of the changes I’ve made to the site so far:
•Expanded “Links” page of our site to include more than one link
•Cleaned up the PAC page a little
•Added a “Staff” page with a list of employees and their position at the library
•Added a “Digital Library” page that links you to online books and more
I have plans to add digital tutorials,
an events page (done!) and a children’s section. Can you think of anything that you’d like to see on our site?
It has recently come to our attention that many patrons are having trouble accessing iPac.
